Kendricks, Stefanidi Earn Runner-Up HonorsBy Scott Bush The professional track and field action got underway at the Drake Relays Thursday evening at Capital Square in downtown Des Moines. With a large crowd of onlookers soaking in some of the best pole vaulters in the world competing inside the mall, the unique format was a sight to behold. Barber Wins With EaseReigning outdoor world champion Shawn Barber (CAN) took home the win with a third attempt clearance over 18-8.75. Barber edged Sam Kendricks (USA), who earned runner-up status in 18-4.5. Kendricks missed his attempts at 18-8.75, Morris Earns Another VictorySandi Morris' (USA) magical season continued on Thursday evening, as the world indoor silver medalist won the pole vault competition. Morris easily earned the victory with a clearance of 15-5, well ahead of runner-up Katerina Stefanidi (GRE), who cleared an evening best of 14-9. Morris got the crowd going after her first attempt clearance on 15-5, moving the bar up to a personal best height of 15-11. While Morris narrowly missed on each of her three attempts, she still put on a show and showed there is much more to come from her as the season carries on.
